General Description

Instruct students enrolled in English 100, a 1 credit, pass/fail practicum.

Essential Job Duties

1. Meet with students individually for an hour each week to help with their individual needs and writing assignments.

2. Work with students at a variety of levels on writing skills ranging from basic grammar fundamentals to developing arguments to honing a more sophisticated writer’s voice.

3. Receive training and deliver to students new digital approaches to writing through the Hawkins online writing lab.

Education and Experience

Bachelors Degree required; enrollment in the English M.A. program preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

1. Possess a mastery of English grammar and composition.

2. Strong interpersonal skills with an acumen to teach; conveying ideas and precepts effectively.

3. Positive attitude, self-motivated, and dependable.

4. A desire to teach, motivate and encourage learners is essential.

5. Previous experience as a writing and/or reading tutor highly preferred.
