General Description

Between the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM, provide routine and project maintenance of University grounds including: lawns, exterior planted materials (trees, shrubs, ground covers, etc.), sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, trash receptacles, outside furnishings and equipment, patios, decks, art work and other areas.

Essential Job Duties

Use and maintain weed trimmers, leaf blowers, and other small equipment, hand and power tools

Drive department vehicles

Install and maintain campus flower gardens and other landscapes

Water, fertilize, prune, and trim plants

Move furniture and setup/takedown for special events

Pick up litter/trash

Perform other tasks as assigned

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Must be available to work between the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM.

Must be able to operate tools and equipment in a safe and knowledgeable manner at all times

Previous grounds maintenance experience is preferred, but not required

Must have basic knowledge of basic grounds and landscaping tools

Must be able to handle hazardous materials such as fertilizers or herbicides with provided safety equipment

Ability to work in a kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling position and consistently bend, stoop, lift, reach above shoulders and stand for long periods of time

Must be able to follow verbal instructions and to work individually or with others

Must be capable of lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds

Capable of tolerating and working in extreme weather conditions

Must be dedicated and hardworking and able to perform all job functions in a safe manner

Preferred Major No preference.
Licenses, Certification or Registrations

Must possess a valid drivers’ license and have a safe driving record
