General Description

This position serves as the primary SQL Server Administrator and is responsible for direct support of the SQL servers and associated applications. The position is responsible for interface development along with other members of the Business Support Services team. This position will be responsible for maintenance, capacity planning, patching and development strategy related to the SQL Servers. Assists in assessing feasibility of projects, develops system prototypes, and has frequent interaction with system owners in support of their projects.

Essential Job Duties

1. Primary care and maintenance of the SQL servers and associated applications.

2. Systems integration particularly at the data structure level.

3. Performance tuning, capacity planning and troubleshooting related to applications on the SQL server.

4. Develops interfaces, file transfers and integration between SQL based applications and Banner as necessary.

5. Serves as the primary support for Ellucian GO (mobile app).

6. Develop and execute test plans for ensuring patching, projects, development, disaster recovery and other changes are in full compliance and of sufficient quality to eliminate production outages.

7. Assists Banner DBA with projects and integration as necessary.

8. Provides technical support for specific technology projects.

9. Assists client community with access, role based security and other information requests.

10. Uses appropriate IS & T tools and processes for project management.

11. Creates reports based on user requests as needed from SQL server based applications.

12. Collaborates frequently with other IS & T members on application integration projects.

13. Serves on University and departmental committees and projects as appropriate.

14. Other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties

Other duties include a hands-on role in general maintenance, technical support, enhancement, administration, standards compliance and cross-platform testing of other application projects.

Education and Experience

The educational requirement for this position is: Bachelor’s degree in MIS, CIS or related field, or other Bachelor’s degree with significant SQL server or programming experience.

This position requires: 3 years of experience working with SQL, Oracle or other relational databases.

Proficiency with SQL, and one or more of the following are a definite plus: PHP, Linux, Java, C# and Web Application Server such as Apache or IIS, knowledge of LDAP, software engineering concepts (requirements management, development models, testing and documentation).
